Perhaps you know this Donkey

“This is a Book full of Blessings that we have revealed unto you so people ponder upon its verses and men of intellect may reflect.” (Quran 38:29)

“Seek truth in meditation, not in moldy books.  Look in the sky, to find the moon, not in the pond.” – a Persian proverb.

I can’t help but recall the Killers of Imam Hussain (as) on the plains of Karbala.  It’s been narrated that some of the murders had memorised the entire Quran.  Memorised!  How many times they must have read the Quran to have it memorised.  Yet, they were urging their commander to start the battle early so that they could kill the Holy Imam and then offer their prayers.  The lesson is the same.  Reading may be first baby step towards enlightenment, but is useless without reflection.

The cartoon depicts the message very eloquently. Also as mentioned below, many warriors at Karbala were Haafiz-e-Quran.

But could you throw more light on who was right& who was wrong on that fateful day..which created such a great rift in the muslim ummah which remains to this day.

Wonderful comic. We should all strive to avoid being that donkey!

Awesome – this is something I have been speaking about amongst my friends. Spot on. Great stuff – love it, especially the humor as well 🙂

I know ironic isn’t it. Even majority of the khwaarjis had the Qur’an memorized! And were apparently devout worshipers who spent their nights in salaat. Baffling, right!!
Well, in a way we all are this donkey. Allah guide us.

P.s- I can’t help grinning at the cuteness of that donkey complete with the bunny rabbit ears! 😀

Thanks Mesba, Azar and Splendid. This Sufi Saying has impacted me deeply. Each time I pickup a book, I think am I going to turn out like that Donkey? What about the stuff that I’ve read, heard till date. How much have I implemented. How much has sunk into my heart and has become a part of me? May Allah (SWT) Guide us all. Ameen.
